WHAT IS SHIN-DO-SHOTOKAI?

Shin-Do Shotokai is a national organisation representing people who regularly practice traditional karate. Shotokai is one of the earliest forms of modern karate and remains faithful to its origins. It is pronounced as follows:

Shin - As in the lower part of your leg

Do - Like "dough", the stuff you make bread out of (or “Doh!” Like Homer Simpson!!)

Sho – the same as "show”

to – As in “big toe”

kai - Like "eye", with a "k" added at the beginning!

The term Shotokai refers to the style practiced. There are many other styles you can choose from, each slightly different.

Shotokai has evolved over the years. Master Mitsusuke Harada first brought Shotokai to the UK in the 1960s, delivering and developing the art in a unique and effective way. Over the years, various students of sensei Harada have left his organisation to form their own, each with it's own 'take' on the training techniques, organisational structure and so on, which should surround the essential Shotokai style. Shin-Do Shotokai is one of these.

Our Objectives

Our objectives are, quite simply, to attain real excellence. Martial arts will help with your general fitness and range of mobility, but it will also help with discipline, confidence and respect.

At KEBBA, our philosophies centre around respect, courtesy, discipline, relaxation and non-aggression. The Black Belt is an extremely important achievement in marital arts. It represents much more than just skill – it is a symbol of your maturity, experience, alertness and knowledge. Our qualified instructors are energetic and outgoing, and are dedicated to helping you develop.

While it is never too late to learn, the sooner someone begins the learning process the better.

We promote non-violent resolutions to conflict, helping children understand conflict through role-play

Students learn confidence, self-discipline and control.

Our young students are treated with the same respect as adults and are taught to return that respect to others.

We believe in praise, encouragement and positive reinforcement, with incentives for good behaviour.

We teach the value of setting goals and working to achieve them.

Our Academy is not simply a place to get fit and learn an interesting new skill. We believe that genuinely developing one’s personality takes much more than that – it requires discipline, intelligence and a dedication to excellence that will reap rewards in every part of your life throughout all of your life.
